Abstract

There is no doubt that the theme of democracy is a much discussed one. No exception by Muslim scholars and thinkers who are concerned with Islamic principles, Islamic thought and law. In fact there have been sharp differences between those who accept and those who reject. This difference is caused by several things, including because the term democracy itself is a foreign term that comes from civilizations outside of Islam, as well as their perception of the nature of democracy, whether democracy is a philosophy or a system or both. Can democracy also be implemented in a syar'i manner in countries where the majority of the population is Muslim, given that democracy has now become a global system that rules the world, including the Islamic world. So this paper seeks to explain the Islamic conception in view of democracy.
