Legalitas Zakat Profesi Dalam Perspketif Ekonomi Islam

Abstrak

Professional zakat is a form of zakat imposed on income from certain jobs or professions. The legality of professional zakat is a topic of debate among Islamic scholars and jurists. Some scholars argue that professional zakat is obligatory because income from professions falls under the category of wealth subject to zakat. They refer to several bases, including the general verses about the obligation of zakat and the principles of justice in wealth distribution and the need to help those in need.

On the other hand, there are also scholars who reject the obligation of professional zakat, arguing that traditional zakat is only imposed on certain assets such as gold, silver, and agricultural produce. They believe that there is no clear basis in the Qur'an or Hadith explicitly requiring zakat on professional income, thus establishing professional zakat is considered an ijtihad that may not necessarily align with Sharia.
